1. About Vul' Amathuba
Vul' Amathuba (vulamathuba.co.za) is a free jobs platform of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED). Job seekers build profiles that employers can find, and employers post jobs. By registering you confirm you are 18 or older and agree to these terms. One account per person, or per company you are authorised to hire for. Give true information. You can delete your account at any time; accounts not used for twelve months are deleted.
2. Job seekers: who sees your profile
The aim of the platform is for employers to find you, so new profiles are searchable by default:
- Verified employers can find your profile in candidate search.
- Anyone can see your public profile page, and it can appear on the home page, in the People list and in search engines. It shows your first name and surname initial, photo, headline, town and province, availability, skills, languages, summary, past job titles and employers with years, and qualifications with institutions.
- Your mobile number, email address and CV are never public. An employer sees them only when you apply for their job or they shortlist you, and you are told.
GDED staff who run the platform can see your profile as a verified employer does, without your contact details or CV.
You can switch either setting off, or back on, at any time on your dashboard. No legitimate employer asks you to pay to apply, to be interviewed or to start work; report anything suspicious to hello@vulamathuba.co.za.
3. Employers
- Post only genuine jobs you are authorised to fill, with true details. Jobs go live at once; GDED may remove one that breaks these terms.
- Candidate search is for employers GDED has verified.
- Use candidates' details only to consider them for work with you. Never pass them on, use them for marketing or ask a job seeker for money.
- Delete a candidate's details when you no longer need them, and no later than six months after the job closes, unless they are still in your hiring process or have agreed to stay on your list.
- Job requirements must not discriminate unfairly. Views, downloads and changes to applications are recorded.
4. Using the site
Do not submit false information, post anything unlawful or offensive, copy or scrape profiles, or interfere with the site. GDED may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. The site is provided as it is; GDED takes reasonable care but is not liable for loss arising from its use or from a job arranged through it, as far as the law allows. Agreements about work are between the employer and the job seeker. GDED's name and logos belong to GDED. These terms follow South African law.
5. Your information
GDED is responsible for your information; an operator appointed by GDED runs the site for it. We keep only what you give us: your account and profile, photo and CV if you add them, your applications, the jobs and shortlists of employers, enquiries, and your settings with their dates. We also keep sign-in and download times and a hashed IP address for a short time to stop abuse, and cookies to keep you signed in and remember your cookie choice. If you allow it in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used: it sets cookies and sends information about your visit, including a shortened IP address, to Google, outside South Africa. You can change your choice at any time under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. We show no adverts and never sell your information. Your information is stored in South Africa. If you sign in with Google, Google sends us only your name, email address and account id. Help chat questions go to our AI provider (currently OpenAI, outside South Africa) after we remove phone numbers, email addresses and ID numbers, and are not stored by us; our provider keeps them for up to 30 days to prevent abuse.
6. How long we keep it
Accounts and profiles until you delete them, or twelve months without a sign-in. Public pages are removed at once when you switch them off. Applications: twelve months after the job closes. Festival registrations: until 31 March 2027. Enquiries: twelve months. Logs: 90 days.
7. Your rights and contact
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act you may see, correct or delete your information, withdraw a choice and object to its use; most of this you can do on your dashboard. Otherwise write to hello@vulamathuba.co.za and we reply within ten working days. You may also complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za. If these terms change, you are asked to accept the new version at your next sign-in.
